In the twentieth century, a new generation of artists undertook making a radical change in a form of expression that until that time had focused on capturing the obvious. For them, figurative expression had become a tiring repetition of gestures and forms that ended up seeming too insipid for those who yearned, above all else, to delve into much deeper realities. Abstract Art was born.
If the forms of expression for traditional art were many, the alternatives for Abstraction have proved to be infinite. From geometric preciosity that aspires to represent essential values, to a free willed brush stroke that comes from intuition. Coldness and distancing, on occasions, and dramatic implication on so many others. And always, experimentation. In January, Arteselección explores the fascinating paths of Abstraction through the great masters. Rafael Canogar, Antoni Tàpies, Manuel Viola o Joan Hernández Pijuán exhibit the best of their respective universes in an explosion of conflicting feelings. In 2009, Arteselección goes beyond reality.
